Uses for Essential Oils

Compresses: Add 5 to 6 drops of essential oil into a bowl of hot water. Immerse a small towel into the bowl, squeeze excess water from the towel and apply to the area being treated. Avoid use on broken blood vessels. For a cold compress, add the essential oil to cold water. Aroma lamps: Warm a mixture of essential oil and water over a small light bulb or candle flame. Start with 10 to 15 drops of oil in a 1/4 cup of water, adding more as needed. The rising water vapor releases the fragrance molecules into the air. Neat application: Generally essential oils should not be applied undiluted to skin. However, there are some exceptions. For cologne, adjust the ratio to 75% carrier oil (or alcohol) to 25% essential oil or essential oil blend. Skin and hair care: A few drops of essential oil can be mixed into unscented lotions, creams and hair care products. They can also be added to facial masks.
